JOB DESCRIPTION — ACCOUNTANT / JUNIOR ACCOUNTANT Department: Finance & Accounts Industry: Real Estate / Construction Location: Chennai Reporting To: Senior Accounts / Accounts Manager Experience · Junior Accountant: 1–3 years · Accountant: 3–5 years · Real estate / construction experience preferred. Qualification B.Com / M.Com. CA Inter / equivalent qualification will be an advantage. Role Purpose To ensure accurate, timely and complete day-to-day accounting, reconciliation's, statutory compliances and filings, and maintain the books ready for monthly closure. Key Responsibilities 1. Day-to-Day Accounting · Record sales, purchases, receipts, payments and journal entries. · Maintain accurate accounting records in Zoho Books / Tally / ERP. · Prepare vouchers and maintain supporting documents. · Account for customer receipts, advances, bookings, cancellations and refunds. · Record vendor invoices and expenses correctly. 2. Reconciliation · Perform regular bank reconciliation. · Reconcile customer and vendor accounts. · Identify, follow up and clear unreconciled items. · Maintain outstanding and reconciliation schedules. 3. Real Estate & Project Accounting · Maintain customer and project-wise accounting. · Account for property bookings, advances, cancellations and refunds. · Record project-related expenses under the correct project and account head. · Ensure transactions are properly supported and classified. 4. Statutory Compliance & Filings · Prepare workings and data for GST, TDS and other applicable statutory compliances. · Perform GST and TDS reconciliation's and identify differences. · Prepare GST returns, TDS returns and other applicable statutory filings. · Prepare statutory payment workings and challans within due dates. · Maintain statutory registers, workings, acknowledgements and supporting documents. · Track compliance due dates and pending items. · Coordinate with Senior Accounts / consultants for review and filing. · Follow up on notices, mismatches and compliance issues. · Maintain complete records of all statutory filings for audit and verification. 5. Monthly Books Closure · Complete all assigned accounting entries within the monthly closing timeline. · Prepare ledger schedules and reconciliation statements. · Resolve pending and unreconciled items before closure. · Support Senior Accounts in monthly books closure. · Provide schedules and information required for audit and MIS. 6. Documentation & Internal Controls · Maintain proper records of invoices, receipts, payments and vouchers. · Ensure every transaction has appropriate supporting documents and approvals. · Follow accounting SOPs, internal controls and approval procedures. · Report errors, unusual transactions and pending items promptly. Required Skills · Good knowledge of accounting principles. · Working knowledge of Zoho Books preferred. · Working knowledge of Tally / other ERP systems and MS Excel. · Good working knowledge of GST and TDS. · Good reconciliation and numerical skills. · Accuracy and attention to detail. · Good documentation and record-keeping discipline. · Good communication and coordination skills. · Ability to work within defined timelines. Preferred Experience Experience in real estate / construction accounting, particularly in: · Customer advances and collections · Property bookings, cancellations and refunds · Project-wise accounting · Bank, customer and vendor reconciliation · GST and TDS compliance · Statutory returns and filings · Monthly books closure Role Expectation Junior Accountant: Execute accounting entries, vouchers, documentation, basic reconciliation's and statutory compliance support accurately and on time. Accountant: Independently handle day-to-day accounting, reconciliation, statutory compliance and filing preparation, and monthly closing activities with limited supervision.
