We run programmes in the remotest corners of India and urban areas in the areas of Health & Nutrition, Education, Child Protection and Livelihood & Economic Wellbeing in order to facilitate quality education, healthcare and protection from harm and abuse and life-saving aid during emergencies to children.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Academic Support Fellow (ASF) will look after the operations of the Urban Centre including supporting children in the academic classes conducted at the centre to improve their learning level, devise teaching learning materials for interacting teaching at centre, help in the proper usage of resource material given at centre. S/he will also be responsible to maintain cordial relationship with other stakeholders such as Anganwadi Worker, School principal, teachers, Ward Counsellor. Also acts as Bal Raksha Bharat’s representative in the area to a broad range of external stakeholders including relevant government departments on issues related to strengthening child protection mechanism in the community. Work under the supervision of the Assistant Manager/Manager/City Lead in order to maintain a consistent and coherent education strategy. S/he would be responsible for leading the education component of the project/programme and its deliverable in the project/programme geography and ensure that the envisioned outcomes and milestones of the project are accomplished with quality programming

SCOPE OF ROLE

Scope: The person will be responsible for the management of center and the academic classes of the children

Reports to: City Lead/Coordinator/Assistant Manager/Manager

Staff reporting to this post: Part-time Teachers/Volunteers/Consultants

Budget Responsibilities: As per the assigned by the line manager

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

The key area of accountability required will be as follows:

  • Based on the objectives set forth under the Urban Flagship Program, be responsible for planning and implementing of the activities and ensure timely delivery of the project/programme outcome in alignment with the program’s larger vision, mission, commitments and strategy of the program
  • Identification of children to be enrolled at the centre (0-3, 3-6 & 6-14 years)
  • Assessment and Prepare child profile and child tracking sheet for children enrolled at the centre and to develop time table and devise new teaching learning materials
  • Conduct regular ECE and academic classes with enrolled children at the centre
  • Maintain student attendance, assessment records, and learning portfolios
  • Prepare and maintain all the relevant centre/project/programme related documents
  • Conduct monthly parents’ teacher meeting to discuss the progress of the child with the parents/caregivers
  • Ensure school enrollment of the children post completion of school readiness
  • Monitor retention of children in school after enrolment in schools
  • Facilitate in creating a better learning environment promoting inclusion and learning of children in government school
  • Closely working with the school teachers and principals where children enrolled or to be enrolled post completion of school readiness
  • Identify local level partners, support and facilitate the partnership in the implementation of planned activities.
  • Support in organizing campaigns, social protection camps and conduct awareness sessions with children, parents and community stakeholders of different subjects
  • Support the collection and documentation of impact and success stories on monthly, quarterly and annually.
  • Build the capacity of children, families and community to collectively engage local leaders/influential stakeholders on identified issues related to learnings and education.
  • Develop and diligently track the project/programme key documents such as milestones, detailed implementation plan, MIS, procurement plan, stakeholder engagement plan, project budget etc. & undertake periodic reviews of the same as well as continuously strive to achieve the project outcomes as set forth in the project
  • Submit work plan on a weekly/monthly basis to the line manager and follow the same
  • Facilitate donor/s and other stakeholders visits and manage interns, other visits as and when required
  • Any other task assigned by the organization or line manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate/Post Graduate in Social Science /Social Work/any discipline from a recognized university. Weightage will be given to female candidates with B.Ed./DIET, NTT & teaching experience.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in working with NGO/School/Communities/children and other community stakeholders
  • Experience in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), foundational learning, remedial education, or child-centred teaching programmes will be preferred.

Additional job responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities as set out above are not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to carry out additional duties within reasonableness of their level of skills and experience.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING (Strike out whichever is not applicable)

Level 1: The role holder will not have contact with children and/or young people, or access to personal data about children or young people, as part of their work; therefore a police check will not be mandatory unless the content or location of the role changes, in which case the Child Safeguarding level will be reviewed.

Level 2: Either the role holder will have access to personal data about children and/or young people as part of their work; or they will be working in a ‘regulated’ position (Finance, Monitoring & Evaluation, Legal etc.); therefore a police check will be required .

Level 3: The role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in programs; or are visiting programs; therefore a police check will be required .
