Job description

The Executive Housekeeper is responsible for the overall management and operation of the Hotel Housekeeping Department. The position ensures that guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and other hotel facilities are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, presentation, safety, and guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Housekeeping Operations

Plan, organize, and supervise daily housekeeping operations.

Ensure guest rooms and public areas meet established cleanliness and presentation standards.

Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, corridors, public areas, back-of-house areas, and housekeeping facilities.

Ensure rooms are prepared and released according to hotel standards and operational requirements.

Coordinate with Front Office regarding room status, arrivals, departures, VIP guests, room moves, and special requests.

Establish and maintain effective cleaning procedures, checklists, and quality standards.

Ensure proper handling of lost and found items.

  • Team Leadership & Staff Management

Recruit, train, coach, and develop housekeeping employees.

Prepare staff schedules, assignments, and daily work plans according to occupancy and business needs.

Conduct daily briefings and communicate operational priorities to the team.

Monitor employee performance, attendance, grooming, and discipline.

Provide regular performance feedback and recommend training or development programs.

Maintain a positive, professional, and service-oriented working environment.

  • Quality & Guest Satisfaction

Maintain consistent hotel cleanliness and housekeeping standards.

Respond promptly to guest complaints and special requests related to housekeeping.

Follow up on guest feedback and implement corrective actions where required.

Work closely with other departments to resolve guest and operational issues.

Support the hotel's guest satisfaction and service quality objectives.

  • Inventory & Cost Control

Monitor housekeeping supplies, linen, uniforms, guest amenities, chemicals, and operating equipment.

Maintain appropriate inventory levels and establish par-stock requirements.

Control departmental expenses and minimize unnecessary consumption and wastage.

Conduct regular inventory and linen counts.

Monitor the condition and usage of housekeeping equipment and arrange repairs or replacement when necessary.

Work with Purchasing and Finance to manage departmental procurement and budgets.

  • Hygiene, Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with hotel hygiene, sanitation, health, safety, and environmental standards.

Ensure cleaning chemicals are stored, labeled, and used correctly.

Conduct regular checks of housekeeping equipment and work areas.

Ensure employees follow proper occupational health and safety procedures.

Implement appropriate procedures for emergencies, accidents, and hazardous situations.

  • Administration & Reporting

Prepare housekeeping departmental reports, schedules, forecasts, and budgets.

Monitor occupancy-related staffing requirements and productivity.

Maintain accurate records for inventory, linen, uniforms, equipment, maintenance issues, and lost and found.

Participate in management meetings and communicate departmental performance and challenges.

Develop and update housekeeping SOPs and operational procedures.

  • Interdepartmental Coordination

Coordinate closely with Front Office, Engineering, Food & Beverage, Security, Human Resources, and other departments.

Communicate room maintenance issues to Engineering and follow up until completion.

Support hotel events, VIP arrivals, group arrivals, and special functions.

Participate in hotel-wide projects and initiatives as assigned by management.

Knowledge and Experience

Diploma/Degree in Hospitality Management or related fields preferred (equivalent operational experience highly valued)

Deep knowledge of housekeeping chemicals, modern cleaning equipment, and fabric/laundry care standards

Minimum 3-5 years of experience as Executive Housekeeper or Assistant Executive Housekeeper in 4/5-star hotels or luxury resorts

Good command of English (especially for cross-department communication and handling guest requests)

Proficient in Hotel PMS (e.g., Opera, Smile) and basic MS Office (Excel, Word) for scheduling and inventory tracking

Strong grasp of cost control, inventory management (linen, amenities), and labor scheduling

Competencies

Hands-on leader who can lead by example and train staff on standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Sharp eye for detail, cleanliness, and room presentation standards

Problem-solving mindset to handle guest complaints and room maintenance issues quickly

Ability to work under pressure, manage tight room turnaround times during peak seasons/full house

Physically fit and energetic, capable of conducting daily physical inspections of rooms and public areas

Great team connector with strong communication skills to coordinate smoothly with Front Office and Engineering
