SAIGroup
Senior UI/UX Designer – Medical Imaging Platform
Skills
Job description
About the Role
We are building a cloud-native, AI-assisted radiology platform for CT and MRI, made up of a browser-based 3D viewer and the web application around it: worklists, study management, clinical workflows, administration, and an agentic AI assistant. The product is developed as a regulated medical device on the path to FDA 510(k) clearance.
We are looking for a UI/UX Designer with about five years of experience to own the design of this product end to end. You will design for radiologists and imaging staff who work for hours on dense, high-stakes images, and you will work side by side with our engineers, ML team, product, and QA to turn clinical needs into clear, safe, and efficient interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
Product and Interaction Design
Own UX and UI design across the web application: worklists, search and filters, study and series management, case assignment, review and approval queues, reporting, and administration.
Design the 3D viewer experience: layouts and hanging protocols, MPR and volume views, windowing and transfer function controls, measurements, annotations, and segmentation editing tools.
Design for expert, high-volume use: keyboard shortcuts, mouse and touch interaction, low-latency feedback, and information-dense screens that stay readable.
Map clinical workflows through research, then turn them into user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
AI-Assisted Workflow Design
Design how AI results (segmentations, findings, measurements) appear in the viewer and how clinicians review, edit, accept, or reject them.
Design the interface for our agentic AI assistant: conversation, suggested actions, tool-use transparency, and clear confirmation steps before anything changes a case.
Make AI output visibly distinct from clinician-entered content, and communicate confidence, provenance, and limitations without adding noise.
Design System and Craft
Build and maintain a scalable design system in Figma: components, tokens, patterns, and documentation shared with the front-end team.
Design dark-mode-first interfaces suited to reading rooms, with careful contrast, color use, and accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA).
Produce precise specs and review implemented UI with engineers to make sure the final product matches the design.
Research, Validation, and Compliance
Plan and run usability studies with radiologists and technologists, from early concept tests to formative and summative evaluations.
Support usability engineering for regulatory submissions (IEC 62366-1, FDA human factors guidance): use specifications, use-related risk analysis, and evaluation reports.
Turn research findings and usage feedback into clear, prioritized design improvements.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of professional UI/UX or product design experience, with a portfolio showing complex, data-heavy web applications shipped to real users.
Expert-level Figma: auto layout, variables and tokens, component libraries, and interactive prototyping.
Proven experience building or evolving a design system used by engineering teams.
Strong skills in user research and usability testing, and in turning findings into design decisions.
Solid grasp of interaction design for expert tools: dense layouts, shortcuts, progressive disclosure, and error prevention.
Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA), color contrast, and dark UI design.
Good understanding of front-end constraints (HTML/CSS, React component thinking) to design buildable solutions and work closely with developers.
Excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to explain and defend design decisions to engineers, clinicians, and leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing healthcare, medical imaging, PACS, or clinical software; familiarity with radiology workflows and viewer conventions.
Experience designing AI or LLM-based products, including human-in-the-loop review and trust and transparency patterns.
Familiarity with 3D, scientific, or visualization interfaces, such as CAD, GIS, or imaging tools.
Exposure to regulated product design: IEC 62366-1, ISO 14971 risk concepts, FDA human factors, or similar.
Skills in motion and micro-interaction design for feedback and state changes.
Comfort prototyping with code (HTML/CSS, Storybook, or Tailwind) or with AI-assisted design tools.
A Master's degree or specialization in HCI, interaction design, or a related field.
What Success Looks Like in the First 6 Months
You understand our users' workflows through direct sessions with radiologists, and have documented the key flows and pain points.
You have established the first version of our design system, adopted by the front-end team.
You have designed and shipped at least one major workflow, such as the study worklist or AI result review, validated with real users.
Your design documentation is traceable and ready to support usability engineering in regulatory submissions.
What We Offer
A chance to define the design language of an AI-enabled clinical imaging product used to improve patient care.
Real ownership and influence on product direction, working directly with engineering and clinical experts.
Direct access to radiologists and imaging specialists for research and feedback.
Competitive salary and benefits.
Flexible work arrangements and support for professional development.
