Job Description CDM Smith is seeking an Analytics Engineer to join our Business Technology team. This individual will be part of the Data & AI Technology group, helping to support Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC), and Digital Engineering Solutions initiatives using modern data technologies and analytics to deliver actionable business insights and robust solutions for AEC professionals and client outcomes. The Data & AI Technology group helps lead the firm in AEC-focused Business Intelligence and data services by developing scalable analytics platforms, reliable data models, and intuitive analytics solutions that enable self-service BI and analytics across the organization. The Data & AI Technology group utilizes advanced analytics, data science, and AI/ML to give our business and our products a competitive advantage. It includes understanding and managing the data, how it interconnects, and engineering analytics-ready datasets and semantic layers to support self-serve AI/BI and BA opportunities. This position is for a person who has demonstrated strong analytics engineering capabilities, is experienced with data technologies and analytics tools, and enjoys framing analytical problems, contributing to solution development, and supporting implementation. As a member of the Data & AI Technology group will also participate in research and development and support AEC practices at CDM Smith through product experimentation, testing, and the incubation of analytics-driven ideas that arise from across the company. Key Responsibilities: Design and implement data models, transformation workflows, and analytics layers to support self-service AI/BI and analytics. Design, develop, test, and maintain analytics-ready datasets, semantic models, and reusable data products. Build and maintain scalable analytics solutions using Databricks, SQL, Python, notebooks, jobs, and governed enterprise data assets. Develop and maintain reusable semantic layers, business definitions, dimensions, KPIs, and metrics that ensure consistency across analytics platforms. Apply data quality, validation, governance, lineage, and documentation standards to analytics assets and reporting solutions. Create and maintain dashboards, reports, visualizations, and interactive analytics applications using Power BI, Databricks AI/BI, Streamlit, Plotly Dash, or similar technologies. Design, develop, and consume REST APIs to integrate analytics solutions with enterprise systems, cloud platforms, and external services. Monitor analytics solutions and troubleshoot technical issues while supporting ongoing improvements. Provide support to business users in utilizing self-service AI/BI and analytics platforms effectively. Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and develop analytics applications and visualizations that address business needs. Partner with data engineers, data scientists, AI/ML specialists, and solution architects to deliver end-to-end business solutions. Stay abreast of the latest developments and advancements, including new and emerging technologies, best practices, and new tools and software applications and how they could impact CDM Smith. Assist with the development of documentation, standards, best practices, and workflows for analytics platforms and solutions used across the business. Perform other duties as required. Skills & Abilities Skills and Abilities: Strong Python programming skills for data processing, automation, API development, and application development. Strong SQL skills for data transformation, validation, optimization, and building analytics-ready datasets. Experience with Databricks or a comparable cloud-based analytics and data platform. Experience creating dashboards and visualizations using Power BI, Databricks AI/BI, or similar BI platforms. Experience developing data models, dimensional models, semantic layers, and reusable business metrics. Experience building or integrating REST APIs and enterprise data services. Understanding of lakehouse architecture and modern analytics platform concepts. Familiarity with software engineering practices including Git, testing, documentation, modular code development, and CI/CD concepts. Strong troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills when working with technical teams and stakeholders. Detail oriented with the ability to execute complex analytics tasks. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. 3–5 years of related experience. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with Databricks (AI/BI, Genie Code, Genie Spaces, Unity Catalog) or modern analytics platforms. Experience implementing semantic models that support both dashboard-based and natural-language analytics experiences. Experience building analytics solutions that support advanced analytics or AI/ML initiatives. Experience supporting enterprise self-service analytics programs. Additional Pay Range Information CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate’s salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training. Additional Compensation All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
